Originating in Southeast Asia, the mandarin orange, or mandarin, is a citrus fruit first cultivated in China around 4th century BC. Mandarins were introduced to European and North American cuisine in the 19th century, becoming popular for their sweet flavor, easy-to-peel skin, and seedless interior. Today, mandarins are widely cultivated in many countries and come in different varieties such as clementines, tangerines, and satsumas.

Mandarins are a great source of vitamin C, fiber, and are low in calories and high in water content, making them a healthy snack option. Additionally, mandarins contain antioxidants and flavonoids, which have anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties.
